Saturday 04 March marked World Obesity Day.

In anticipation for this important annual occasion, Allurion, pioneers of the procedureless gastric balloon, commissioned a survey by independent body YouGov. The findings unveiled that 31% of Australians classify themselves as obese - with Australia topping the list when compared to global markets.

The study surveyed over 6,000 individuals from across the globe on the impact of obesity. From the 1,000 Australians participating, 91% of Aussies say obesity impacts both mind and body, whilst 71% of Australians say their weight has increased since the pandemic.

In line with this year's survey findings and World Obesity Day theme, ‘Changing perspectives: Talk About Obesity’ Allurion partnered with the World Obesity Federation and supported the campaign by raising awareness about obesity and the impact it has on individuals across the globe.

Benoit Chardon, International Director, Allurion says that the team is determined to raise awareness about the impacts of obesity through changing perspectives, correcting misconceptions and to end stigmas by simply starting a conversation: “Every year we see fad diets come and go, but what we don’t see is the struggles individuals face when embarking on their weight loss journey. We don’t see the challenges of developing sustainable solutions or fighting the burden of stigma over and over again.

“We know conversations bring people together, so this year we are actively debunking myths and misconceptions by revealing findings that can start the debate.”

There’s no ‘magic bullet’ when it comes to losing weight and achieving overall great health. However, with a full program of dedicated support, Allurion has helped over 100,000 people (and over 1,000,000 kilograms) globally achieve real goals, develop good lifestyle habits - and transform lives. Allurion’s game-changing swallowable gastric balloon is the world’s first and only medical weight loss device that requires no surgery, endoscopy or anaesthesia.
